Hiking nearby

We went for a hike up the closest hill near our house with a marked trail, Blueberry Cobbles. Wildflowers were out and we saw trillium, columbine, ferns, violets, strawberry plants and lots of blueberry bushes.

We could see our house nestled in the woods from one of the viewpoints. A good time was had by all.

Shirley and quilt

Loki, oblivious

I have almost finished my first (sort of) quilt

With the moral support of Shirley, Loki and Tim, I’ve been sewing madly. I’m pretty happy for an almost first effort. I just need to stitch around the whole thing about 3 more times and tidy up all the loose ends. My last (and first) was completed about 35 years ago and I no longer own it. I’m already planning my next project and I want to use scraps of fabric and hand sew it. Know anyone with scraps?

Today I learned how to tie my shoes

Knot exactly but I learned how to tie a double knot for my running and hiking shoes that unties easily.  This was my old way.  I don’t use the bunny ears any longer. I tie a square  double knot that lies flat and then tie the bows into another knot.  I only learned about the square knot in my 30’s. I learned the new way last week with my hiking group and tested it today during a run.   It works.

The best thing about this knot is that it unties with a tug on one of the laces.
